Monsoon Care for Portulaca

Portulaca or Moss Rose is a beautiful flowering plant. It is a summer – spring plant, best suited for a warm and moist environment. Moss rose (Portulaca) belongs to Portulacaceae family. There are almost 80-100 members in the Portulacaceae family. The Portulaca Grandiflora is one of the most beautiful and popular plants in the Portulacaceae family. Growing portulaca is very easy, even a beginner gardener can grow it successfully.

1. Water the plants only after checking the beds/pots and planting media for moisture. Very less watering is required during this season.

2. Look for worms in plant beds. Plants are prone to be infected with worms during this season. Apply pesticide on regular intervals.

3. Good ventilation and light are essential during this season as the temperature inside the greenhouse should not become very humid.

4. Avoid fertilization during monsoon.

5. Plants are prone to pests during the monsoon season. Pesticide and fungicide should be applied once a week to control pests and diseases.

6. Prune the plants just before the monsoon season as it aids budding of flowers and overall growth of the plant.

7. Young plants in the farms and gardens should be sheltered properly from rains.

8. Ensure that the water is not clogged around the plants.
