Pothos are one of the first house plant that may considered by plant lovers. One of the main reason is that it is very easy to maintain and highly versatile. 

You can grow it in low light, but it will grow well in brighter indoor spaces. It does not require lot of water. Just ensure that the soil gets moist, not saggy.

The best part is that there are so many unique varieties of pothos available. It is also known as Ceylon creeper, ivy arum, taro vine or devil’s ivy.
Despite the differences, though, they all need the same basic care. We’ll see how you can grow them successfully and then we’ll talk about each one in turn. 


How to Care Pothos

Pothos is very easy to care for. However, there are a few tips you will want to follow:

Light pothos prefers bright indirect light, but it will tolerate low light conditions too. The leaf color may change with light exposure though.

Watering : If you grow pothos in soil, water it after the soil is dry. Check whether the soil is dry by putting your index finger in the soil for around one inch.

Soil : Use well drained soil mix

Propagation :  Very easy and with high success rate by stem cutting, both with rooting in water or directly into a pot.

Golden Pothos



 Pothos plants are arguably one of the easiest plants to grow and actually thrive on low light and neglect. It features heart-shaped mid-green foliage splashed in creamy gold. If you grow this variety up a totem and give it lots of light and warmth, you’ll find the leaves can grow quite large. These plants serve to purify the air of formaldehyde, benzene and carbon monoxide while also helping eliminate odor.


Neon Pothos




Neon pothos is one of the most distinct varieties. Its leaves are golden yellow to neon and appear to emit a faint glow. The youngest leaves tend to show this glow even more distinctively than the older one. The foliage deepens in color with age.

Jade Pothos

Heart-shaped leaves with solid dark green color make it stand out from other pothos. Jade Pothos is able to adapt to lower light but grow well in bright, indirect light.  The leaves of the Jade pothos are a solid green and slightly smaller and more narrow than the Golden Pothos. 

Marble Queen Pothos

It features green heart-shaped leaves heavily splashed and streaked with creamy white. The foliage is usually similar in size to golden pothos. The Marble Queen needs medium to bright indirect sunlight, but will also do well in low light. Avoid direct sunlight. 

Pearls and Jade Pothos

It is an eye catching variety that spots green leaves variegated with white and silvery-gray. The white and silver-gray variegation of leaves is more on the edges compared to the middle. Also, the leaves are slightly smaller in size than other pothos varieties.
