Why my adenium is not flowering | How to force adenium to flower more

adenium flowering tips

Adenium is also called desert rose plant because they like nature’s dryness and will grow best in summer. Mainly Adenium blooms the most in summer, but we can get longer flowers, let us discuss how to deal with it and always keep healthy Adenium.

The desert rose plant may not bloom for several months, but if the plant is healthy and growing conditions are right, it will eventually bloom.
The most important thing to remember is how to maintain healthy adenium plants, because only healthy plant can produce the maximum number of flowers.

Proper fertilization

The right amount of fertilizer can ensure that plants get the nutrients needed for flowering. In terms of fertilizers, we can provide chemical fertilizers and organic fertilizers at the same time, because these two kinds of fertilizers have the best effect. To promote flowering, using phosphorus-rich fertilizers or bone meal may also help. Fertilize once in forty days with compost and bone meal will promote blooming. Spraying fungicide mixed water to the plant caudex to tip will help to avoid all kind of infections and fungal problems.

Watering

Desert rose plants are drought tolerant and can survive for several weeks without irrigation. However, plants need enough water to bloom. Problems arise when plants are allowed to stand in moist soil or water. We must have well drainage soil in the pot, so that required amount of water is being absorbed by adenium and excess water drain out of pot.

During the growing season, check the soil every few days. When the soil is completely dry, water them. Saturate the soil, but not soak it. The soil should be mist, not saggy.

During winter, adenium goes to dormant stage because the night will be cooler. And the leaves will also be dropped. At this time, reduce watering to the plant and allow it to go dormant. This will ensure better growth and flowering in the next season.

Sunlight Requirements

Desert rose needs plenty of sunlight. Lack of sunlight may be the reason why desert rose plants do not bloom. Place the plant in a place that receives at least five to six hours of direct sunlight every day-preferably even more. Adenium thrives in full sun light with regular watering in summer.

Even though direct bright sun light increases blossom, Adenium will take a break during the winter and rainy seasons. You will see flowers begin to develop in early spring.

The blooms are long-lasting and are attractive to hummingbirds and pollinators such as bees and butterflies. when the weather begins to cool, you must keep your Adenium indoors.

Pruning to bloom more flowers

Late winter to early spring is usually the best time, as its blooms emerge from new growth. Blooming occurs on new growth, so timing pruning well before flowering encourages more branching and, as a result, more blooms to develop.

If you found any fungal problem, leaf spot or bugs, carefully prune the infected area to stop spreading it to the plant. These cuts should be made several inches below the infected area. Dispose the diseased portion immediately.

Re potting Adenium

The best time to re pot adenium is during it's active growth period. By doing so, plant's roots will have enough time to grow. Re pot your adenium once in an year to the next large size pot. Prepare potting mix with river sand, coco peat and compost.
